Westhay & Meare CC 107 -8 lost to Walton 108-4 by 6 wickets

After a morning of heavy rain the skies cleared enough to get a reduced game of 22 overs a side in. Walton won the toss and put Westhay into bat on a damp pitch. And it proved the correct decision as debutant G Purchase and L.Whitcombe both made early inroads into the Westhay batting line-up, with Purchase ( 3-5 ) off his spell of 3 overs and Whitcombe (1-9) removing dangerman Russell (10) early. Walton continued to keep the runs down with some tight bowling throughout the 1st ten overs, although great resistance was put up by Mason ( 25*). It wasn't until the introduction Neil (1-4) that Walton struck again and this lead to further wickets as Westhay looked to increase the run-rate with youngsters Ganfield (1-14) and Beckingham (1-25) picking up wickets to good catches. L Luckins (0-18) bowled well to no avail and M.Cox ( 1-6) struck with the wicket of Macpherson (22) in the final over. Special mentions to D Bendall for a great performance in the field and T. Sharp did very well with his first game as WK.

Westhay also started there bowling well removing openers D Bendall (8) and Ganfield (1) in the first three overs. Walton started to rebuild after this with Kerr and T Sharp at the crease, both started cautiously in the tricky conditions, but Sharp quickly shifted up through the gears reaching 29* with a flurry of boundaries including a big straight 6 before retiring out. Kerr ( 20*) stood solid for his highest score in a Walton shirt as Purchase (14) and Cox (10) came and went and it was left to Kerr and A Bendall ( 7*) to finish the game for Walton CC with 4 overs left to play.

Match Report 31 July Vs Westhay

Walton CC 136 - 6 beat Westhay CC 133 ao by 4 wickets

J White in his first game as Walton Captain promptly lost the toss and Walton were put in the field on a muggy Sunday afternoon. However it seemed like a good toss to lose when A Bendall ( 1-16 ) picked up a wicket in his first over and Jones ( 1-5 ) clean bowled the dangerman Lusby in the 3rd over of the game. Westhay had to dig in deep and Colin ( 43 ) and Chant ( 31 ) provided a very important stand for the 3rd wicket until White ( 2 - 25 ) made a breakthrough. A run-out provided by Jones led to a major collapse in the batting with Cox ( 4-4 ) the chief destroyer with a rare spell of off-spin.

Walton's new opening pair of Cox ( 24 ) and White ( 4 ) didn't start well with Freddy ( 1-16 ) picking up a wicket in the 2nd over and Chant ( 0-17 ) bowling well. Toddy ( 34-1 ) and Fearson ( 18-2 ) picked up wickets and kept the runs down as Waltons batting faltered with Malone ( 16 ) and Kerr ( 11 ) the main contributers in the middle order. It took a brilliant unbeaten partnership of 49 between Jones ( 43 not out ) and Snook ( 5 not out) to bring Walton home in the 27th over.

Match Report 29th July Vs Avalon AllStars

Walton CC 115 - 8 Lost to Avalon All-Stars CC 116 - 5 by 5 wickets

Walton and Avalon met in their annual Friday 2020 bash with Walton having come out on top in the last two meetings. Avalon won the toss and Avalon captain T-Bone put Walton into bat. The Walton opening pair of White ( 31 ) and M Cox ( 12 ) started well putting on 53 for the 1st wicket until Lewis ( 2 - 5 ) got the all important breakthrough. This lead to a Walton middle order batting collapse with wickets being shared around by Gamble ( 1 - 14 ) Shave ( 1 - 11 ) Hughes ( 2 - 16 ) and Court ( 1 - 10 ) . However Walton's tail started to wag with Whitcombe ( 17 Not Out ) and A Sharp ( 17 ) making very useful runs down the order with the partnership eventually coming end when Sharp was clean bowled by Jefferies ( 1 - 20 ) which left Avalon chasing 115.

Avalon started brightly with the opening pair of Hughes ( 13 ) and Evans ( 41 ) looking to attack from the off, with some big boundaries hit by both. T Sharp ( 1 - 17 ) got the first breakthrough, but Avalon kept coming at Walton with great strokeplay by Shave ( 15 ) and Lewis ( 22 ). Walton tightened the bowling up in the middle overs with Malone ( 1-4 ) White ( 1-17 ) and Jones ( 2-6 ) all picking up important wickets. So it was left to senior bat Ball ( 7 not out ) and debutant Gamble ( 6 not out ) to finish the game off for Avalon with 2 overs to go.

Walton Vs West Bagborough 17.7.2011

Bagborough CC 129 - 5 Beat Walton CC 125 AO by 5 Wickets

Walton travelled to the Quantocks for their match with Bagborough CC in overcast conditions. Walton won the toss and elected to bat first. Bagborough took full advantage of a drying pitch and Walton lost wickets regularly with only N Hubbuck ( 31 ) contributing at the top of the order. After 16 overs Walton found themselves at 60 -6 with M Cox ( 24 ) and T Sharp ( 30 ) at the crease, who steadied the innings with a 7th wicket partnership of 63 to help Walton post a total of 125 all out.

Walton's opening bowlers started well and both created chances early with M Bucknor ( 15 - 2 ) getting the first breakthrough. Jones ( 23 - 1 ) bowled a pacy spell to remove opener R Wood ( 37 ) and after a razor sharp bit of fielding by T Sharp caused a run out Walton had hopes of an upset. However Walton never had enough runs to play with and despite an economic spell of leg-spin by N Hubbuck ( 1 - 17 ) Bagborough CC won the game in the 26th over with successive boundaries.

Westhay CC 49 ao lost to Walton CC 231-4 by 182 runs

Walton travelled the short distance to The Home of Cricket, Westhay CC's 'Muddy Lane' for a  Friendly on a stifling hot Sunday afternoon this weekend. Skipper S Higgins won the toss and chose to put Westhay into the field to face the brunt of the afternoon sun and the opening pair of J Cowling ( 50* ret) and O Ganfield 76 who put on 126 for the first wicket until J Cowling retired at drinks.  S Higgins (48*) joined Ganfield and marshalled the troops too a very respectable total of 231-4 off the 40 overs ending unbeaten with M Constanza (11*).

Westhay started off slowly in reply with A Bendell (1-13) and Higgins (0-3) bowling very tight lines for the opening 10 overs. The 1st wicket coming as Higgins and Cowling combined well for a sharp run-out early on. M Cox (1-18) and Ganfield were then bought on 1st change with Ganfield producing a stunning display of spin bowling which tore through the Westhay upper, middle and lower order and gave him figures of (7 -17) off 5 overs.

Broadway & Horton CC 99 All Out Lost to Walton CC 103-8 by 2 Wickets

ForWalton CC's 1st friendly of the season, they travelled to Broadway& Horton with a very young side. On winning the toss and seeing avery damp pitch Walton Captain S.Higgins put B&H into bat first. The decision paid off, with an early run out by T Sharp and bothopeners taking wickets early into their spell, S. Higgins (4-1-12) andM Cox (7-1-9). Breakthroughs were also made by A Bendall ( 1-20) and O.Ganfield ( 1-18), however the bowling performance of the day went to J.White who mercilessly skittled through the middle order with(5-17-5). A big performance in the field for Walton, with tight fielding all round and not a single catch put down.

After a big tea and some tremendous scones, J.White and O.Ganfield opened the batting on what was still a very tricky pitch and they dug in for 9 overs until J. White (15) was dismissed by Hill (4-15) with the score on 53. O. Ganfield (34) went two overs later and this was followed by a middle order collapse with only No 8 S.Higgins (10) reaching double figures from Batsman 3-8. Higgins's dismissal bought J.Gallagher(22 no.) to the crease who pushed Walton over the line with a serious of 6's and a 4 along with a very mature innings by A.Bendall (4 n.o)
